Photography Proposal

For my project the theme I have chosen is adventure. Just like from the books I am going to capture the essence of adventure and the art of storytelling through the means of photography. My reason for choosing this as my theme is that it allows my imagination to run and for me to get creative with my work. It also caters to the type of photography that I would have an interest in and gives me the opportunity to use my artistic side in a new medium. With art having been my best subject in school and an interest of mine I believe I am sticking to my strengths by choosing adventure as my theme. For this project I am going to use photography as my medium to create art.

My subjects will consist of historical buildings such as round towers and castles as these structures hold stories of their own from times before. Books will be another strong subject of mine as they to hold stories of their own, stories of adventures like fairytales, the Wild West and of heroes and the battles they’ve fought. With all adventures there is always some form of travel and to represent this I am going to use a pair of old shoes as another one of my subjects. I may also use stairways, gateways/doors or pathways to represent this as it is venturing into the unknown. Other subjects will be landscapes and people. Another subject that is a possibility is that of old objects

My goal is to start off with this project and to develop it so that at the end I can look back and see a clear sense of beginning middle and end through the development of my skills of photography and of an artist. The project will be presented in a book with an array of images telling a story. Or of groups of images each telling their own individual story. I will make each group consist of 4 -5 images. I may also include sketches with my work. The book they will presented in will be also made by myself.

I will achieve this by going out to certain locations within Dublin and Wicklow. I will also sketch out drawings alongside keeping with the theme of course but to help me generate ideas for photo shoots or ideas for specific photos I will want to shoot. I already have specific places such as Wicklow Jail, Glendalough, Trinity College, Powerscout House, Powerscout Waterfall and the Hellfire Club as locations.
